A brief history of pearls |

SIZE OF TAHITIAN PEARLS
In addition to color and luster, size is an incredibly important factor when experts gauge the value of Tahitian pearls. These beautiful pearls usually range in size from 8 to 18 millimeters (pearls are measured in diameter). The average diameter of a Tahitian pearl is about 13 millimeters, and larger pearls - with all other factors being equal - are typically more valuable than smaller pearls are.
Tahitian Pearl Size: One of Many Quality Factors
A Tahitian pearl's size is very important in determining its value, but other factors also determine its quality. Luster, surface quality and shape are also characteristics that experts must judge to determine how valuable a pearl is.
The single-most important factor in choosing Tahitian pearls, however, is the wearer's preference. Everyone has a different preference when it comes to size, shape and color, so as long as you are buying genuine Tahitian pearls, their personal value is what matters.
