Akoya Pearl. While I couldnt pretend to know the difference, when you are already paying so much for pearls, and consider that they will last more than one lifetime (and will therefore be handed down to other generations), I preferred to pay for the security of being assured of the quality. Having made that decision, the price is much lower that comparable (or even lesser) pearls from Tiffany or Mikimoto. I took Eddies advice and bought the best quality available at the largest size I could afford. The only decision left was rose or silver overtones!
You could not ask for more from a pearl merchant. The service (ordering/shipping/delivery) is excellent and the merchandise is evidenlty excellent. The proprietor (Eddie) answered questions by phone and by email. If you are worried about the quality, you have 30 days to take the pearls to a jeweler and compare or get an appraisal. There are lower prices available on the web for the same size of pearls, but I was convinced that the quality of less expensive pearls is not the same, and that any lower price must involve Chinese pearls instead of the Japanese David
